The story of Zohran Mamdani’s journey from relative unknown to mayor-elect of New York City was captured in many different forms, including photos.
Photojournalist Jack Califano began covering the Mamdani campaign behind the scenes and at public events, even when Mamdani was only polling around 8%.
Over eight months and hundreds of rolls of film later, Califano followed Mamdani all the way to his election win.
His work been published in the New York Times, Vanity Fair and New York Magazine.
Califano spoke with NY1 anchor Rocco Vertuccio Saturday on “Weekends on 1” about his photographs.
