New York Jets cornerback Kris Boyd was in critical condition after being shot in midtown Manhattan early Sunday morning, officials said.

An NYPD spokesperson confirmed that a 29-year-old was shot. The Jets said in a statement they were “aware of the situation involving Kris Boyd and will have no further comment at this time.”

The shooting took place in front of 156 W. 38th St., where Sei Less, an Asian fusion restaurant is listed as the occupant. The restaurant is open from 3 p.m.-1 a.m. on Saturdays.

Police responded to a 911 call at 2:09 a.m., and observed the man with a gunshot wound to his abdomen, the spokesperson said.

The man was transported to New York City Health + Hospitals, the police said.

The investigation is ongoing.

The Jets signed Boyd in the offseason to one-year, $1.6 million contract. A special teams ace, Boyd didn’t play in any games for the Jets this season. He injured his shoulder during a training camp practice and was placed on season-ending injured reserve in August.

Boyd was a seventh-round pick of the Minnesota Vikings in 2019 after attending the University of Texas. He spent four seasons with Minnesota before signing with the Arizona Cardinals in 2023. The Cardinals cut Boyd in October of that year. He joined the Houston Texans three weeks later.

Last season, Boyd appeared in 17 games for the Texans, mostly on special teams.
