STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. — Some residents at the New York City Housing Authority’s Todt Hill Houses development say they’ve been without water since Friday.
On Sunday, Nov. 16, The Advance/SILive.com received reports that water had been out at the Todt Hill Houses going back to Friday, Nov. 14.
According to the tipster, who asked that their name not be used out of fear of retribution, the water at 176 Schmidts Lane turned off suddenly on Friday with no notification.
On Saturday morning, the tipster says that residents were notified that a pipe had broken, and an automated message claimed the issue would be fixed that night.
When Sunday came, however, the water was still out in the building and residents were stuck filling pots and pans at a series of faucets connected to a fire hydrant on LaGuardia Avenue.
“I’m surprised they did not offer bottles of water to the tenants,” the tipster said. “Everybody has to come downstairs with bottles or buckets to get water just to flush the toilet.”

Another resident of the Todt Hill Houses, who also asked that her name not be used, confirmed that the building at 176 Schmidts Lane has been without water since Friday.
“Originally we were told it would be back in one day, but look,” she said while filling a pot with water at a faucet set up outside.
As of 3 p.m. Sunday, however, NYCHA’s service interruption website shows no outages for any of the buildings in the Todt Hill Houses development.
The Advance/SILive.com reached out to NYCHA for comment, but they did not respond before publication.
