Road work will begin tonight on a bridge over the New York State Thruway in Newburgh, just north of exit 17.

Crews will install 14 steel girder sections, some of which are 120 feet in length, on the Mead Hill Road bridge.

There will be nightly lane closures and some traffic stops in both directions while work is conducted on the bridge.

Authorities say each traffic stop should last less than 20 minutes. Drivers should plan for extra time.

Work is expected to be completed Thursday. The bridge is expected to be completed next summer.
