STATEN ISLAND, N.Y.— History made!

The Tottenville girls’ varsity soccer team capped a perfect regular season (10–0–0)— its first since a multi-year run that began in 2006— with a 4–1 win over Susan Wagner on Senior Night at the Luten Avenue school, making the victory all the more special for the Pirates’ four-year players.

“This is great; it’s definitely an amazing feeling,” said TVille head coach Katelyn Murphy-Tackach, who was quick to credit her players for executing such a remarkable season.

“I have to give it up to my girls; they’ve been a great group to coach, to watch and to be around. It’s been a fun season, and I’m excited for the the playoffs now,” she continued.

A 4–1 win might seem comfortable to most, but with the Pirates averaging a 5.5-goal winning margin heading into the match, the Falcons made them earn it— a testament to Wagner being “a great team,” according to Murphy-Tackach.

The Pirates carried a slim 1-0 lead into halftime thanks to a late goal from Adelina Hidric, but Wagner tied the game with the first tally after the break to make it 1-1.

“We started the game a little slow. It was Senior Night, and that definitely made a bit of a difference— they started flat, and it took them a while to get into it, but once we got there, it was great,” Murphy-Tackach explained.

From there, Hidric refused to let her team’s perfect season slip away after the equalizer, responding with a second-half hat trick to score all of the Pirates’ goals and cap a phenomenal freshman campaign.

“She’s been a pillar of our attack the entire season and she really helps lead the team,” Murphy-Tackach said.

“But she also knows that it’s a group effort. If you talk to her, she’ll tell you that she can’t do that without the people getting her there. So she’s very humble, which is a nice quality to coach,” she continued.

As for her senior leaders’ special night, the HC said that “They’re amazing players and great to be around. You can see their impact in the way the team holds together, especially in tough moments. Even today, facing adversity in a rare close game, they kept the team focused and helped pull out the win,” she concluded.

With the extra-special victory, Tottenville will now turn their attention to the playoffs, and it’s hard to argue that the Pirates aren’t the team to beat.
