BROOKLYN, N.Y. (PIX11) – A police officer was grazed in the face by a bullet while responding to a fatal shooting in Brooklyn early Monday morning, sources and Mayor Eric Adams said.

Authorities were investigating a homicide on Thomas S Boyland Street in Brownsville at around 5:56 a.m., according to the NYPD. Police said a 41-year-old man had been shot in the chest and died at the scene.

Sources said two officers were guarding the scene when shots were fired, possibly with a shotgun, at around 7 a.m. The cop suffered scratches on his face and was driven to Brookdale Hospital by his partner.

The gunman then barricaded himself at the location. Sources said the suspect allegedly involved in the fatal shooting died at the scene.

“Due to police activity, please avoid the area of Linden Boulevard and Thomas S Boyland Street. Expect delays in the surrounding area,” the NYPD wrote on X.

Sources said two other police officers were injured in a car crash near the scene.

“Praying for the officer’s recovery and we will continue to monitor the situation,” Adams wrote on X.
