After a cold, blustery Monday conditions will gradually improve heading into Tuesday afternoon.

Skies will be mostly cloudy to start with a few peeks of sun possible by the afternoon. The best part about Tuesday will be the lighter winds. It may occasionally be breezy, but the wind will not be as gusty as they were on Monday. 

It will remain chilly though. Afternoon highs will hover in the upper 30s to lower 40s. Our normal high for mid-November is in the upper 40s. These temperatures will be eight to nearly ten degrees colder than average.

A new emergency notification system is now online in Monroe County. Officials on Monday announced Monroe Alert, the county’s new communications system for real-time emergency alerts and updates.

2. Monroe County DMVs to close 13 straight Fridays for staff training

All Monroe County Department of Motor Vehicles will be closed for 13 straight Fridays due to staff training, the County Clerk’s Office announced Monday. County officials say staff will be trained as part of a new New York State Department of Motor Vehicles modernization project.

3. State health officials urge residents to get vaccinated as flu, COVID rates rise in New York

According to New York State Health Commissioner Dr. James McDonald, COVID-19 cases are on the rise in New York. He says for every person in the hospital with flu, three people are hospitalized with COVID-19, and this year’s vaccine rates are 30% behind last year.

4. Hochul calls on Trump administration to release $400 million in federal funds for heating assistance

New York Gov. Kathy Hochul and other lawmakers around the state called on the Trump administration Monday to release federal heating assistance funding.

5. How investing in the historic Auditorium Theatre could benefit the Rochester community and beyond

It’s a rebirth decades in the making. At the center of it is Arnie Rothschild. He’s unveiling the first phase of a $65 million restoration of Rochester’s historic Auditorium Theatre. It’s not just about restoring and expanding the theater. Rothschild says it’s about creating an arts ecosystem that reaches beyond Rochester. 

6. Hamlin Lions Club community medical closet offers free access to medical equipmen

The Hamlin Lions Club wants the community to know that it has more medical equipment available in its loan closet after the Village of Brockport donated its inventory after discontinuing its loan program.

Volunteer goes above and beyond to help feral cats

There are roughly 32 million feral cats across the United States, according to estimates from the National Feline Research Council. If you have some in your neighborhood, you know.

There are dog people, there are cat people, and then there’s Marla Berry, an HR professional who might love animals that are left to their own devices even more.

“I found kittens under my front porch. And that’s where the cat bug got me,” Berry said.
