Planning is now underway for what might have once seemed like an unlikely political sit-down.

Mayor-elect Zohran Mamdani revealed Monday he wants to meet with the president, saying, “My team reached out to the White House to fulfill a commitment during the campaign that showed willingness to meet with anyone and everyone.”
President Donald Trump spoke of Mamdani’s request Sunday, saying, “We’ll work something out.”
During a visit to a food pantry on Webster Avenue in the Bronx, Mamdani said he hopes to speak with Trump about SNAP benefits, grocery prices and the cost of living.
“The President ran on a campaign where he spoke about a promise to deliver cheaper groceries, a promise to reduce the cost of living,” Mamdani noted. “We are seeing his actions and those of his administration in Washington leading to the exact opposite effect for New Yorkers.”
The potential meeting follows Trump criticizing Mamdani for weeks — threatening to withhold federal funding from the city if Mamdani were to become mayor.
On election night, Mamdani had a message for President Trump: “Turn the volume up.”
In an interview with WABC-TV, Mamdani opened up about another meeting — his conversation with Police Comissioner Jessica Tisch.
Mamdani did not share whether Tisch plans to serve his administration.
“The conversation was more about what it can look like to continue to deliver public safety,” he said during the interview.
Mamdani also responded to a comment Mayor Eric Adams made during his trip to Israel.
Adams was asked about the safety of Jewish New Yorkers under a Mayor Mamdani.
“If I [were] a Jewish New Yorker with children, I would be concerned right now,” he said.
“I am looking forward not only to deliver for the many Jewish New Yorkers [who] were a core part of this campaign but frankly for each and every Jewish New Yorker across the five boroughs,” Mamdani said in response.
