WASHINGTON (TNND) — President Donald Trump threatened to withhold hundreds and billions of dollars from New York City if the mayoral candidate Zohran Mandani gets elected.
Rep. Claudia Tenney, R-N.Y., slammed Mamdani for his far-left policies in an interview with The National News Desk. She said the impact of Mamdani’s “socialist systems” will be felt outside of New York City.
“I think the taxpayers should be more afraid of a guy, a communist, who wants to go in and double and triple taxes, try to turn a capitalist system that the United States largest city and and the most important economic city when it comes to New York State and to turn it around into a communist, you know, hellhole, you’re going to have people leaving the city in droves, not paying taxes. Taxes are going to go up. Resources are going to go down. What Trump saying is don’t, put in these communist continue to put in these communist policies in place where you’re going to bilk the taxpayers,” Tenney said.
Upstate New York is also feeling the effects of socialist systems, Tenney said.
I’m from upstate. We have felt the effects of this. I went to small businesses today in my community. They’re getting crushed by taxes, by regulations. All the things that socialist like systems cause things,” Tenney said.
This is also because New York Governor Kathy Hochul is a staunch supporter of Mamdani and even endorsed him in the race. The governor can approve statewide legislation with such policies.
Mamdani’s policies
When it comes to Mamdani’s policies, during an interview with Fox News’ Martha MacCallum on Wednesday, Mamdani apologized to the New York Police Department for previous comments that may have insulted the police department. He also promised to work with them if elected. Tenney called out Mamdani for supporting Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez and the “defund the police” movement.
“His biggest supporter, Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, started the defund and demoralize the police movement that has led to all the problems we’re seeing in New York City and continues this and continues to support her,” Tenney said.
Mamdani also refused to credit President Donald Trump for all he did in negotiating the peace deal in Gaza. Tenney said that if Mamdani gets elected, she hopes the two can work together despite their differences.
“Trump will work with anyone. You know, he’s even working with Hamas to try to, you know, release the hostages,” Tenney said.
Tenney also said Mamdani is antisemitic. Mamdani was previously called out for using phrases like “globalize the intifada,” which he refused to condemn.
“Antisemitism is the part that is also really concerning,” Tenney said.
