New York woman dies, passenger critically injured in crash with tractor-trailer in Keene

A Saranac Lake woman has died and another person was seriously injured after a crash involving a tractor-trailer in Keene on Monday afternoon.New York State Police said a tractor-trailer driver was heading east on NYS Route 73 just before 4 p.m. when he lost control of the vehicle due to slush on the roadway. The truck jackknifed and slid into the opposite lane, police said.Tracy Mauler, 57, was driving west on NYS Route 73 and was unable to avoid crashing into the truck. She was pronounced dead at the scene.Police said a passenger in Mauler’s vehicle, an 84-year-old woman who is also from Saranac Lake, was taken to Adirondack Medical Center before being transferred to the University of Vermont Medical Center. She is listed in critical condition.Another driver behind the tractor-trailer was unable to stop and made contact with the vehicle before striking a rock wall. Neither that driver nor the truck driver were injured.The truck driver is not facing any charges at this time. An investigation is ongoing.
