There are nearly 400 lanterns and more than a million lights. This year, there’s also an interactive Freeze Zone, which includes a snowball toss and snow slides. The setup starts right after Halloween.

Jim Breheny, the director of the Bronx Zoo, said, ” It’s a huge amount of work because we own all the lights and the lanterns. It’s a labor of love, really, for the people at the zoo because we really like the aspect of the zoo being seen by the community and used by the community in a different way.”

It’s open 4:30 to 9 p.m. Friday through Sunday through Jan. 4. Additional weekday tickets are available around Christmas.
