New York State Assemblyman Michael Tannousis partnered with 70 volunteers Sunday to remove 1,125 pounds of trash and debris from Cedar Grove Beach.

The cleanup brought together Tannousis, a Republican who represents parts of Staten Island and Brooklyn, and a group of volunteers from ASEZ WAO, the young adult worker volunteer group of the World Mission Society Church of God. The effort aims to prevent plastic and waste from reaching the ocean and damaging marine ecosystems.

The event was part of ASEZ WAO’s “No More GPGP” campaign, which promotes global awareness and action to prevent expansion of the Great Pacific Garbage Patch. The organization operates in more than 175 countries.

“I am proud to partner with ASEZ WAO and the World Mission Society Church of God for this meaningful cleanup effort at Cedar Grove Beach,” Tannousis said. “Keeping our shoreline clean is essential to protecting Staten Island’s natural environment and enhancing the quality of life for our residents. I am grateful to the volunteers who are dedicating their time to this cause. Their commitment reflects the very best of our community.”

Wilbryant Ruiz, an ASEZ WAO volunteer, said the collaboration demonstrated community strength.

“Cleaning Cedar Grove Beach today showed how much we can accomplish when the community comes together,” Ruiz said. “Working alongside Assemblyman Tannousis’ office motivates us even more to protect our coastline and keep Staten Island beautiful.”
