Knoxville bagel shop wins big in New York City competition

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (WVLT) – A Knoxville bagel joint has won big at New York City’s Bagelfest.

Potchke took several wins for:

“Coming home with 4 medals is beyond what we thought was possible, but only means that y’all are freaky for the potch,” the shop said in a post to Facebook.

Bagelfest is billed as “the world’s premier bagel celebration.” Started by the “bagel ambassador,” Sam Silverman, it sees bagel makers and enthusiasts from across the country come together for tastings, competitions and other experiences, like bagel-making classes.

Potchke has been in business for less than a year. In the post, the business made sure to shout out the people who make the bagel business happen.

“Thank you to all the Potchke Deli and Bagel crew for literally creating the most amazing atmosphere day after day and making the craziest most delicious Jewish food that has ever existed,” the post said. “All we’re trying to do is show that the future of Jewish food and cooking has so much room for evolution, as long as we firmly keep our grasp on the traditions and don’t let them disappear!”
