STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. — Staten Island seniors were afforded an evening of recognition, music, and community spirit at this year’s Golden Era Senior/Elder’s Dinner, hosted on Thursday at PS 18.

The annual celebration in West Brighton organized by Brothers Care Inc., Beyond Educational Enrichment, and the Staten Island Center For Hope, welcomed more than 80 guests for a night dedicated to honoring our borough’s seniors.

Guests were greeted with a hot buffet prepared by a team of Staten Island community chefs that offered a spread highlighting the generosity and talent of local culinary volunteers.

“Every senior in attendance went home with a specially prepared Emergency First Aid Kit complete with a flashlight, heated blanket, and essential medical supplies — an extra layer of security and care as the winter season approaches,” said Frank Sullivan, president of Brothers Care.

Sullivan added that the evening was especially meaningful for Jaimita Haskell, founder and CEO of Beyond Educational Enrichment, who explained that the event began as a vision two years ago.

“With the partnership and unwavering support of Brothers Care Inc. and Center For Hope, that vision has grown into what will now be an annual celebration honoring seniors and elders,” she said.

Vanessa Sullivan expressed gratitude for the evening, noting how wonderful it was to see family, friends, and community members come together in unity.

Kenny Philips, who also offered thanks, noted he wouldn’t have been able to attend the event without pivotal community members like Kevin Harris, who believed in him.

“Coming together as one and acknowledging our seniors and elders is needed as they paved the pathway for us,” he said before reaffirming the organization’s commitment to its motto: “Unity in the Community,” Sullivan said.
