QUEENS, N.Y. (PIX11) — At Jamaica Hospital in Queens, the tables were turned for heroes on the front lines.
Hundreds of first responders and families in need went home with turkeys and all the trimmings, thanks to a special Thanksgiving giveaway.
After 25 years as an EMT at Jamaica Hospital, Ruth LeBron said it meant everything to finally be the one. With grocery prices sky high, she and her colleagues say a free holiday meal is more than food on the table; it is one less bill to worry about and a reminder that their sacrifices matter and are appreciated.
Volunteers from Met Council loaded turkeys and sweet potatoes into the hands of EMTs, nurses, and families, backed by support from Jamaica Hospital, the Sol Goldman Charitable Trust, and Councilmember Lynn Schulman.
