Asian dessert buns are being pulled from store shelves across New York and other states

STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. — A beloved Asian dessert is being recalled for undeclared ingredients after being distributed across the nation.

Brooklyn’s own Prime Food Processing is recalling two kinds of lava buns for including milk in its ingredients but not listing it in the allergens on the packaging.

According to the Food and Drug Administration, “The milk in these products is derived from unsalted butter listed in the ingredient statement. People who have an allergy or severe sensitivity to milk risk a serious or life-threatening allergic reaction if they consume these products.”

The buns — both Salted Egg Yolk and Green Tea flavored — were sold in grocery stores from April 2, 2025, to Nov. 14, 2025.

The Salted Egg Yolk Lava Buns, packaged in an orange wrapper, have a UPC reading as: #97903705873. The lot code is 25092-25318.

As for the Green Tea Lava Buns, which come in a green wrapper, the UPC is: #97803705883. The lot code for these buns is 25092-25318.

Both bun types come in 24-ounce packages and have printed expiration dates dating between July 2026 and March 2027, the FDA detailed.

Precisely 2,243 cases are being recalled from the following states, as listed by the FDA:

The lack of notification about the milk is being credited to “a temporary breakdown in the company’s label review process,” the FDA said.

If you or someone you know purchased the impacted buns, you can return them to the store you bought them at for a full refund; so long as they are uneaten and in their packaging.
