Gotham FC will be celebrated Monday in lower Manhattan after capturing the National Women’s Soccer League championship Saturday evening — their second league title in three years.

The event will begin with a short procession from Barclay Street and Broadway to City Hall, where Mayor Eric Adams and other city officials will honor the team for their 1-0 victory against the Washington Spirit in San Jose, California.

“Gotham Football Club continues to make our city proud, and we will celebrate them like the champions they proved they are last night,” Adams said in a statement Sunday. “This team embodies everything we love about women’s soccer — grit, skill, and pure determination.”

Adams said the win is “a statement that women’s sports belong on the biggest stage in the world.”

City Hall was illuminated with blue lights starting Saturday and will continue to be lit in the team’s colors through Monday.

Gotham’s road to the championship included a Nov. 16 1-0 win over the Orlando Pride to advance to Saturday’s final.

Gotham finished the season with an 11-8-9 record. The team is the first eighth-seed to win the NWSL championship. It’s the club’s second championship since 2023, when they were the first sixth seed to claim the trophy.

The club was founded in 2006 as Jersey Sky Blue but introduced itself as the rebranded NJ/NY Gotham FC in 2021. The team plays its home games at the 25,000-seat Sports Illustrated Stadium in Harrison, New Jersey, which also is home to the New York Red Bulls of Major League Soccer.

After Saturday’s victory, Gotham coach Juan Carlos Amorós called the championship “a dream come true for me, for everyone, for the players, for the staff, for the club.”

“I’m just a guy from a neighborhood in Madrid that loves soccer,” Amorós said in an interview posted on the team’s website, “and you put a lot of effort into your life and suddenly I’m here winning my second championship.”
