A Long Island elementary school teacher has been suspended indefinitely after allegedly livestreaming “disturbing remarks,” the district superintendent wrote in a letter sent to families on Wednesday.
Superintendent George Poole said the individual in question, a Wading River School teacher, had been removed from the classroom and banned from school grounds, pending the outcome of the investigation.
It wasn’t clear when or where the comments were made, nor did officials offer any immediate insight on their nature. The teacher’s identity has not been released.
Poole said that Riverhead police were aware of the issue and school officials were cooperating in their investigation. He said he couldn’t comment further.
“While I understand that this news may leave you with questions, our legal counsel has advised us that we are unable to provide any further comment at this time,” the letter read. “I will provide any new developments as appropriate. Thank you for your continued support and understanding.”
Suffolk County police said officers were investigating a report involving an employee of the Shoreham-Wading River Central School District. Officials said no additional information would be provided at this time.
