BROOKLYN, N.Y. — Senior Darin Humes-James scored a career-high 19 points and was named game MVP as Susan Wagner recorded a 71-65 victory over Wings at the 21st annual Hersh Classic on Sunday at Jefferson HS.
In addition to Humes-James, the 2-0 Falcons received plenty of support as four players finished with double digits in points. Chris Albano (eight rebounds) scored a game-high 21 points while Charles Gambino and Adem Djonbalic added 11 markers apiece.
Gambino also turned in a strong defensive game, according to head coach Danny Lanigan, and junior Clevi Hoxha (six points) grabbed a game-high 15 rebounds for the Falcons.
Jamel Addison scored a team-high 17 for Wings, which is a 4A team from the Bronx.
The Falcons fell behind 18-10 after one quarter, but they scratched and clawed their way back into the game behind Albano (nine second-quarter points). Then Djonbalic gave the Sea View school its first lead (35-33) when he buried a buzzer-beating trey at the halftime buzzer.
“Big basket,’’ said Lanigan. ”We got off to a cold start as a team and that gave us some momentum going into the second half.’’
Humes-James scored 16 of his 19 points after intermission, including 6 of 7 free throws.
Djonbalic added two big threes and the Falcons canned 6 of 8 freebies during the final eight minutes to stave off Wings.

Pregnon Titi finished with a game-high 22 points for the Rangers.
Washington scored eight points while Faulkner and Gaskin each added a three-point play as the Warriors only trailed 18-16 after the first period.
The Rangers, however, got some separation after outscoring the St. George school 44-24 in the middle two quarters, led by Titi’s 14 points. Aaron Tutt, Zion Hamilton and Syncere Fergerson added eight points apiece as FH built a 62-40 advantage after three quarters and cruised the rest of the way.

In addition to Jordan, Dalton Cherubin scored 13 points for the 0-2 Seagulls.
Jordan Castillo and Angel Piron paced the Wolves with 25 and 22 points, respectively.
