A stunning political twist, President Trump is supporting New York.
It was all smiles at the White House on Friday afternoon after what President Donald Trump is calling a “great meeting” in the Oval Office between himself and New York City Mayor-elect Zohran Mamdani.
In what many say is a shocking reversal, President Trump said he feels very confident in Mamdani leading New York. The Oval Office face-to-face between the two was their first since the Democratic socialist got elected mayor in a campaign.

New York Gov. Kathy Hochul, who helped prep Mamdani before the meeting, seems very happy with how the meeting went.
“I welcome President Trump’s renewed commitment today to New York’s success and his acknowledgment of our shared priorities: lowering costs and improving public safety,” Hochul told Hudson Valley Post in a statement.
Trump also says the better Mamdani does, the happier he will be, because he loves New York.

Both men brushed off questions about trading insults when Mamdani was running for office, something that Hochul appreciates.
“I also appreciate that the President rejected efforts by members of his own party to weaponize the mayor-elect’s background, faith, and identity for political gain, including the Islamophobic attacks labeling him a ‘jihadist.’ There’s no place for rhetoric like that in our politics or in New York,” Hochul said.

Trump says both men agree they want a safer New York City.

Hochul says she’s excited to work with both men to help improve New York.
“I look forward to working with President Trump and Mayor-Elect Mamdani to deliver for New Yorkers. But as I’ve always said, I’ll work with the President when it benefits New Yorkers, and I’ll fight like hell when our values are at stake,” Hochul added.
