An Englewood man was arrested after his two brothers were found dead at a hunting cabin they were staying at in New York.According to the New York State Police Department, SP Amity troopers responded to a disturbance along Botsford Hollow Road in Fillmore, New York, on Sunday night at 10:06 p.m.Troopers found David E. Thompson, a 69-year-old Port Charlotte man, and Mark B. Thompson, a 70-year-old Connecticut man, dead at the cabin.John Sweeney, David Thompson’s brother-in-law, expressed disbelief over the tragic news. “I just can’t believe it because I’ve hunted with all three of those guys,” Sweeney said. “I’ve met him before. I was surprised, so he called Jane last night and apologized. That was surprising to hear. That’s how Jane, I think, found out about it.”He said David and his wife Jane loved spending time outdoors and had recently retired to Florida. “I just talked to her this morning for a while, but they were both very strong in their faith, and I’m sure she’s going to fall back on that to help her out with prayer,” Sweeney said. “They enjoyed going down to the beach and just sunning in the sun. They liked to go down there and read, and they did a lot of boating together.”According to investigators, Scot Thompson shot both of them with a rifle after the three of them got into a physical altercation, during which one of the brothers called 911.Police said Scot left the scene in David’s vehicle, and the vehicle’s information was disseminated to authorities.The vehicle was found by the Livingston County Sheriff’s Office and Geneseo Police Department, and they took Scot Thompson into custody before turning him over to SP Amity troopers for processing.Thompson will be transported to the Allegany County Jail for the CAP arraignment. He is facing two counts of second-degree murder and two counts of first-degree criminal use of a firearm.
