EAST WILLIAMSBURG — POLICE ARRESTED Luis Machado, 33, after a license plate allegedly torn from his Tesla linked him to a Sept. 27 hit-and-run that killed Brooklyn sommelier Alexandra Huggins, 32, in East Williamsburg, according to the Daily News.
Huggins, biking south on Leonard St., ran a red light and was struck; the impact threw her into parked cars. She died at Woodhull Hospital. Detectives used the plate and surveillance video to track Machado to Medford, N.Y. He was arraigned and released.
Huggins, a rising wine professional, had recently returned from France. Her family established a Bed-Stuy community garden fund in her honor.
