A Florida man has been charged after he was accused of killing his two brothers, including one who lived in Canterbury, at a hunting cabin in New York, police said.
New York State Police said Scot D. Thompson, 65, fatally shot Mark B. Thompson, 70, of Canterbury, and David E. Thompson, 69, of Port Charlotte, Fla., during an altercation on Sunday night.
Scot Thompson, of Englewood, Fla., was charged Monday with two counts of second-degree murder and two counts of first-degree criminal use of a firearm. He was slated to be arraigned at the Allegany County Jail, New York State Police said in a news release.
Troopers were called to a home on Botsford Hollow Road in Allen, N.Y., around 10:05 p.m. Sunday for a reported disturbance and found the two older Thompson brothers dead, according to state police. The small town of Allen, which is named after Ethan Allen, has a population of about 500 in southwestern New York.
Investigators determined the three brothers were staying at the hunting cabin when they got into a physical altercation and one of the brothers called 911, police said. Scot Thompson then shot and killed his two brothers with a rifle and left the scene in David Thompson’s vehicle, according to police.
Law enforcement shared the vehicle information, leading to the Livingston County Sheriff’s Office and Geneseo Police Department finding the vehicle and taking Scot Thompson into custody, police said.
Police are continuing to investigate the incident.
