STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. — National Grid and the FDNY were among those present at an emergency response in Oakwood on Tuesday morning.
Residents who live near the scene on Penn Avenue near Hylan Boulevard said at least one building was evacuated due to what they believed to be a gas issue.
The city’s Notify NYC alert system advised residents to “expect traffic delays, road closures, mass transit disruptions & emergency personnel” in the area in a post on X, formerly known as Twitter.
National Grid had multiple vehicles on the scene and its workers could be seen going in and out of a construction site at the location.
