STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. — The NYPD is asking the public’s assistance in identifying a vehicle wanted in connection with an incident of grand larceny that occurred last week in New Springville.
According to police, on Tuesday, Nov. 18 at approximately 1:30 p.m., an 82-year-old woman was exiting a parking spot at 2873 Richmond Ave. when two unidentified individuals approached in a white Chrysler minivan and flagged her down. The Richmond Shopping Center is located at the address provided by police.
The individuals told the woman her vehicle needed to be repaired because she just ran something over and that they are mechanics who can do the repairs, according to a statement released by the NYPD’s Deputy Commissioner of Public Information.
The victim then withdrew $3,800 from her bank. The individuals took the money and fled the location in a white Chrysler minivan with unknown Pennsylvania plates, traveling in an unknown direction. There were no injuries reported, police said.
Police say the two sought individuals are described as males with medium complexions. They are both approximately 5-feet, 7-inches tall.
The NYPD has released a surveillance photo of the white Chrysler minivan.
