STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. — Thalia Treasure and Madisyn Chen combined for 25 points as the Seagulls opened their PSAL 3A slate on a high note.
“We won a very tough first league game,” said MSIT coach Peter LaMarca. “Defense was the difference. If we continue to buy in to what we are trying to commit to then we can possibly have a good year. Good communication, solid footwork and defensive rebounding will lead to wins.”
The Seagulls, who improved to 2-0 overal, led 21-8 at the half after not allowing a point in the first quarter.
Stella Chan added eight points for the winners.
Petrides 30, Erasmus 27
STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. — Asha Bell set the tone early and never let up, leading all scorers with a dominant, 19-point performance while adding four assists and four rebounds in the PSAL 3A win.
Sabrina DeFazio provided key support, chipping in nine points and pulling down five boards.
Despite a young roster, Petrides showed composure as the team weathered multiple scoring droughts and delivered crucial defensive stops in the final minutes to secure the narrow victory.
“This was a good start to the season, but we have some execution to work on,” said Petrides coach Jenn Delahanty. “With the hard work the team is putting in, we’ll continue to progress as the season goes on.”
Petrides (1-1 overall) looks to build on its success as it enters the ML Gators Thanksgiving Classic this weekend.
