UWS is getting a kosher Doughnut treat
Dough Doughnuts, the artisanal doughnut brand known for its handmade brioche-style offerings, is opening a new storefront on the Upper West Side. Located at 133 West 72nd Street, the shop is expected to open at the beginning of December, ahead of the Chanukah season. Founded in 2010 in the Bed-Stuy area of Brooklyn, the brand focuses on producing elevated doughnuts using a yeast-based brioche dough rather than traditional cake dough, resulting in a lighter and fluffier texture. Dough Doughnuts prepares its products in small batches continuously throughout the day at existing locations, a practice expected to continue at the new Manhattan outpost.
Dough Locations
The opening marks the seventh location for Dough Doughnuts in New York City. The brand already operates stores across a number of key neighborhoods and high-traffic commercial areas. Among its locations are Flatiron in Manhattan, Rockefeller Center, the Upper East Side, Astoria in Queens and Prospect Heights in Brooklyn. Dough has also maintained seasonal presence at outdoor food markets, providing increased exposure and access to its signature products. The decision to expand into the Upper West Side reflects the brand’s continued focus on serving residential areas with strong demand for premium kosher desserts, particularly those seeking freshly prepared products throughout the day.
Each location offers both classic (dairy) and vegan (pareve) doughnut varieties.
Doughnut Flavors
Dough Doughnuts is particularly known for its yeast-dough donuts and has developed a wide, rotating menu featuring both year-round flavors and seasonal specialties. Established flavors include glazed vanilla, chocolate cocoa, lemon poppy seed, and blueberry lemon. Seasonal staples have previously featured ingredients that align with holiday periods and seasonal demand patterns, including cheesecake-inspired doughnuts, white chocolate raspberry, apple and pecan pie. Menu items are decorated and finished by hand. Core recipes emphasize carefully sourced ingredients and consistent preparation across all locations, maintaining uniform standards throughout the brand’s network of stores.
Dough annually puts out new Chanukah specials as sufganiyot, every year with different fillings, including a traditional berry filling.
New UWS Location
The new Upper West Side location is expected to contribute to increased demand in advance of Chanukah. Doughnuts are a common inclusion in celebrations during the holiday period, and the timing of the opening positions the brand to accommodate early holiday orders.
