STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. — Thursday is Thanksgiving Day, a time we set aside to give thanks for our blessings.

Originating as a harvest festival with Colonial roots, the holiday is celebrated to remember the 1621 feast of the Pilgrims and the Wampanoag people.

Many of us will attend parades or gather with family and friends to dine, watch football and enjoy holiday classics on TV.

Those hoping to get some in-store holiday shopping done on Thanksgiving are out of luck, as options are limited. Many stores offer extended hours on Black Friday instead of opening on the holiday.
