DOWNTOWN BROOKLYN — FOUR MEN HAVE NOW PLEADED guilty in Brooklyn federal court to conspiring to steal funds from a nonprofit operating homeless shelters, the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Eastern District of New York announced on Monday.
Luis Camarena, who installed surveillance cameras for the unnamed organization, admitted Monday to paying kickbacks to two employees of the organization, co-defendants Gary DSilva and Jonathan Velazquez, who steered security contracts to his company.
DSilva and Velazquez, as well as the fourth defendant, Pradeep Nigam, previously pleaded guilty to a similar scheme concerning Nigam’s business, a provider of IT services.
The two collectively authorized over $3.5 million in payments to businesses they secretly profited from.
All four face up to five years in prison and must pay more than $1 million in restitution.
