New York Jets cornerback Kris Boyd said he is back in the hospital nearly two weeks after he was shot outside a restaurant in midtown Manhattan.

In a message posted to his Instagram page, Boyd said he had previously been released from the hospital, but was now back due to “my health issues.” It was not clear what specific issues he was referring to.

“I love and appreciate everyone and yall dearly who has prayed/reached out even if I can’t get back to you!” he wrote in the message that was posted to his Instagram story. “Head HIGH, God is not through with me yet!”

The shooting happened just after 2 a.m. on Nov. 16 about halfway between Madison Square Garden and Times Square. Boyd, 29, was taken to Bellevue Hospital in critical condition after being shot in the abdomen, police said. The shooter fled the scene.

A bullet ended up in one of Boyd’s lungs. No other injuries were reported.

Boyd hasn’t played this season, his first with the Jets, after going on the season-ending injured reserve list on Aug. 18 with a shoulder injury that required surgery to repair.

Police have released surveillance video of the alleged gunman in the Kris Boyd shooting. Tracie Strahan reports.

He signed with New York as a free agent in March and was expected to be a key part of a revamped special teams unit under Glenn and special teams coordinator Chris Banjo. But Boyd was injured during a training camp practice Aug. 2 and carted from the field.

Boyd has remained around the team throughout the season while recovering from the shoulder injury.

Jets coach Aaron Glenn said previously that he had spoken to Boyd and was confident in his recovery, saying he was “upbeat” in their recent conversation.

“That’s what eases my mind, is that he’s in good spirits,” Glenn said on Nov. 19. “His wife and his kid, they’re in good spirits and he will walk away from this just fine.”

New York police released surveillance images on Nov. 17 of a man sought in the shooting of Boyd. A motive for the shooting remains under investigation, and authorities said it’s not clear if Boyd was targeted. There was no word on whether any arrests had yet been made.

Boyd, a Texas native, played his first four seasons with Minnesota after being a seventh-round pick by the Vikings out of the University of Texas in 2019. He signed with the Arizona Cardinals in 2023 and then joined Houston’s practice squad later that season. Boyd signed a one-year contract worth $1.6 million with the Jets in March.
