NEW YORK (PIX11) — A Cold Weather Alert has been issued in New York City, as wind chills hover near freezing through the evening.
A few wind gusts of around 20 to 25 miles per hour are likely through early Saturday morning, with daytime temperatures expected to stay in the lower 40s, according to the National Weather Service.
The New York City Department of Homeless Services will declare a Code Blue that will remain in effect until 8 a.m. on Saturday.
During a Code Blue, shelters will be open to those in need, and no one will be denied. Outreach teams will work to connect vulnerable New Yorkers to shelters and resources.
If you see anyone experiencing homelessness or in need, contact 311 and request outreach assistance.
