KEVIN McAllister’s out-of-this-world NYC trip in Home Alone 2 would look much different today – and would cost the mischievous pre-teen much more on his dad’s credit card.
Ever since Home Alone 2: Lost in New York came out in 1992, people from all over the world have wished to replicate the adventurous Big Apple getaway shown in the film.

Kevin McAllister, the character that child actor Macaulay Culkin made into a pop culture icon, made his debut in the original Home Alone which came out in 1990.
Following the film’s unprecedented success, which made Macaulay, now 45, one of the most famous child stars of all time, the team reunited for a sequel that is arguably an even bigger hit than its predecessor.
In the holiday movie, 10-year-old Kevin gets separated from his parents during Christmas and mistakenly flies to New York City while the rest of his family is on another plane to Florida.
Upon realizing that he was all alone in the big city, Kevin took it upon himself to get into a series of mischievous adventures and treated himself to a life of luxury at the city’s most famous 5-star hotel – all charged to his dad’s credit card.

When Kevin checked into The Plaza Hotel in the 1992 film, suites cost around $1,100.
While that is still quite the hefty price tag, today’s number would be roughly a 486% increase, costing around $6,300 a night.
The room service feast that Kevin famously chowed down on also skyrocketed in price due to inflation over the years.
The $967 room service tab that Kevin controversially racked up would be at least $2,400 in today’s dollars.

Kevin’s infamous ice cream sundae he enjoys at The Plaza Hotel would have cost $18 in the 90s.
Due to how popular the sweet treat became, The Plaza serves a special Home Alone sundae to guests who stay at the property.
The 16-scoop mountain of ice cream includes toppings and sauces, and costs a whopping $500 before taxes.
If fans want the full Kevin McAllister experience, the ice cream sundae is not the only way to experience the magic of Home Alone at The Plaza.
The hotel now offers a Home Alone package, which includes a private 4-hour limousine ride around New York City, complete with a hot cheese pizza, just like in the movie.
A lavish room as well as the 16-scoop sundae is also included in this special package.
For those wanting to ride around New York City like Kevin without being part of The Plaza package, be prepared for a steeper price tag.
At the time, a four-hour limo ride would cost roughly $800, given the average $200-per-hour price at the time.
Today, that same limo ride would be double, as guests can expect to pay closer to $1,600 for a drive around the city.
In total, what would have cost Kevin, well, his parents, just $2,000 for the stay in 1992 would be closer to $9,000 in today’s economy.

In addition to the price tags looking much different, certain aspects of the city have also drastically changed in the years since the movie came out.
Those wanting to go to Duncan’s Toy Chest, the store heavily featured in the film, may be disappointed as the shop is fictional.
Made just for the movie, the exterior was filmed in Chicago, though the store itself was inspired by toy legend FAO Schwarz.
FAO Schwarz, which many know from Tom Hanks dancing on the giant piano in the film Big, still exists in NYC.
However, the famous Fifth Avenue store everyone knows shut down in 2015 due to declines in sales and was turned into an Apple Store, though a smaller store is still open at Rockefeller Center.
Other parts of the movie, which were filmed a decade before 9/11, that will look different include Kevin visiting the original site of the World Trade Center’s Twin Towers, which is now the One World Trade Center skyscraper.
The film shows Kevin walking up to the buildings in awe, and even a gorgeous shot of him standing on top of the towers, taking aerial photos of the city below him.
However, many of the city’s landmarks that Kevin gets lost in are still available for fans to check out, including Radio City Music Hall, The Empire State Building, Fifth Avenue, and Central Park.
