Eight Manhattan immigration judges were fired Monday by the Trump administration after the government was hit with a discrimination suit by a recently terminated immigration judge.

The judges who worked out of 26 Federal Plaza in Lower Manhattan were let go, according to a report by ABC News, citing an official in the National Association of Immigration Judges.

Earlier Monday, Tania Nemer sued the Justice Department on the grounds she was terminated from her post as an Ohio immigration judge because of her gender, the fact that she is also a citizen of Lebanon and that she was a Democratic candidate for local office.

More than 100 immigration judges have been fired or quit as part of the Department of Government Efficiency’s effort to trim inefficiencies and spending by encouraging federal employees to leave their jobs.

About 3.7 million immigration cases jammed up in the court system.

The Department of Homeland Security has been installing so-called “deportation judges,” which has drawn criticism from immigration activists who oppose the Trump administration for getting rid of seasoned judges, the outlet reported.
