The driver killed in a crash on the New York State Thruway has been identified as an Upstate New York woman.

Braylynn S. Fahy, 30, of Fort Plain, N.Y., was identified Tuesday morning by New York State Police. She died Monday night when she was driving a 2018 Chevrolet Traverse that crashed into another vehicle, a 2025 Cadillac Escalade, near Albany.

Police said Fahy’s vehicle merged onto I-90 westbound from the Exit 24 acceleration ramp off I-87, crossed all lanes of traffic and was struck by the Escalade traveling in the left lane. The crash occurred around 6:45 p.m. Monday, and a portion of the Thruway was blocked off with traffic being diverted off Exit 24 as emergency vehicles responded to the scene.

Fahy was transported to Albany Medical Center, where she was later pronounced dead. Another adult and three children in the vehicle were also taken to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

Four adults in the Escalade were hospitalized as well with non-life-threatening injuries, police said Tuesday.

Additional details, include Fahy’s relationship to the passengers in her vehicle, were not disclosed.

An investigation is ongoing, police said.

Fort Plain is located in Montgomery County, about 60 miles west of Albany.
