The New York Red Bulls are in advanced talks to sign American winger Cade Cowell from Mexican club Chivas de Guadalajara.
The deal is expected to be an initial loan, sources briefed on the talks have told The Athletic.
Cowell, 22, joined Chivas from the San Jose Earthquakes in a deal worth $4 million in 2024. He is a product of the Quakes academy.
Since joining Chivas, Cowell has had highs and lows. He had a stretch where he was named Liga MX Player of the Month during his first year, but only started four games so far this season.
The RBNY want to tweak their game model to play a 4-3-3 and need to sign wingers to facilitate that move. Cowell is a natural winger and his dynamic pace will be a good fit with the club.
Cowell had 11 goals and four assists across 68 appearances with Chivas. He had 12 goals and 12 assists in 114 appearances with San Jose, after debuting when he was 16-years-old in 2020.
