An unidentified 41-year-old man, believed to be a food delivery moped driver, was hospitalized after being hit by the car door of one vehicle and a subsequent collision with a second vehicle in the Fieldston section of The Bronx, police said.
According to police, officers from the 50th Precinct were called to Riverdale Avenue and West 238th Street at 1:05 p.m. on Sunday,
Nov. 30, for a report of a moped rider who had been struck by a vehicle. A police source told Norwood News, “A 41-year-old male was operating a moped in front of 3721 Riverdale Avenue, when he collided with a car door of a parked 2016 Toyota.”
The police source continued, “The male was ejected from the moped and then collided with a 2023 Kia. The male was transported to
Jacobi Hospital in stable condition.”

Police said the moped driver is expected to survive. At the scene of the crash, the moped was seen on its side lying on the street by the curb outside D.J. Drugs and Surgicals. Nearby, a small pool of blood was also seen alongside a surgical glove.
A man behind the counter at a nearby convenience store said the victim had stopped at his store moments before the crash occurred to buy a drink. Describing the condition of the victim after the crash, the employee said, “He was bleeding from the mouth and crying.”

According to police radio, the NYPD initially called for the NYPD Collision Investigation Squad (CIS), which investigates the most serious crashes, to the scene but the request was later cancelled.
One of two police officers was later observed getting on the moped and driving it back to the 50th Precinct on Broadway as his partner followed in a police cruiser.
