BENSONHURST — A VIGIL WILL BE HELD WEDNESDAY EVENING, DEC. 3 FOR THE VICTIMS OF THE HONG KONG APARTMENT COMPLEX FIRE that broke out on Wednesday, Nov. 26.
City Councilmember Susan Zhuang, D-43, who represents a significant Asian population, Assemblymember William Colton and state Senator Sam Sutton are organizing the vigil, being held at Seth Low Park at 4 p.m. with support from several community organizations. The vigil is held in solidarity with the people of Hong Kong, especially family members and friends of the victims, and to honor the memory of those who lost their lives, All community members are encouraged to attend and stand together in reflection and support.
The death toll from the fire has risen above 150, including children, in the blaze that severely damaged seven of the eight 32-story buildings in the complex after spreading, with highly-flammable but popular bamboo scaffolding and other construction materials being blamed.
