Tonight you will have a chance to see the last “Super Moon” of 2025, but also the last “Extreme Super Moon”  until 2042.

Extreme Super Moon Tonight

If the clouds clear out tonight, you should have a chance to see something you won’t see again for almost 20 years. Tonight is the last “Super Moon” of 2025.

The “Cold Moon” is the third and final Super Moon of 2025. It is called a Cold Moon because it happens in December and marks the start of Winter in the Northern Hemisphere.

Tonight’s Super Moon is a bit different from other Cold Super Moons. Tonight’s Super Moon is also an Extreme Super Moon. This moon will appear brighter and higher in the sky than any other full moon of the year.

The extreme height of the moon tonight is due to its alignment with the Major Lunar Standstill cycle, which won’t happen again until 2042.

When Is The Best Time To See The Extreme Super Moon In New York State

The Extreme Super Moon will be at peak illumination around 6:14 pm tonight. That is when the moon will be the brightest, but it won’t be the best time to see the Super Moon.
