Today will be a very cold day across Western New York. Temperatures will struggle to get above freezing, and with wind chill, temperatures could remain in the single digits for most of the area.

The reason for the cold is a massive drop in the Polar Vortex that is bringing cold arctic air from Canada into Western New York.

What Is The Polar Vortex?

The Polar Vortex is a large area of old air that circulates around the Earth’s poles. While it normally keeps the coldest Arctic air near the poles, the vortex can stretch south and bring frigid air to our area.

Cold Weather Expected To Continue This Weekend In Western

Today is just the start of a stretch of cold weather. We will see temperatures in the upper 20s for the weekend, with snow showers expected as well. Things will be very cold on Monday morning as well, with a high near 22.
