CARMEL – Putnam County is home to the second-highest median household family income in New York State.

The U.S. Census Bureau reports the median income was $101,576 in 2024 which was a 7.2 percent increase from the previous year.

While the highest-earning county in the state was Nassau County on Long Island with a median family income of $107,534, Putnam was followed by Westchester with a family income of $100,863.

Surrounding counties ranked in the top 50 percent when it comes to wealth.

Suffolk County came in fifth followed by Rockland County’s sixth, Colombia County ranking eighth, Dutchess County, ninth; Ulster County ranking 13th; Orange County 15th; Sullivan County 36th.

On the flip side, Bronx County in the Big Apple is the least wealthy county in New York with a median family income of $38,431.

New York State’s median household income hovers around $85,000.

By the way, Putnam County ranked 25th among the wealthiest counties in the United States while Nassau County ranked tenth.
