Fall colors are reaching their peak across much of New York this weekend, with the North Country already moving past peak in several areas, according to the sixth 2025 I LOVE NY Fall Foliage Report.
The weekly report, compiled from more than 90 volunteer field observers across the state, highlights regions expected to display the most vibrant foliage for the upcoming weekend. “Peak” is defined by I LOVE NY as the best overall appearance of foliage during the season, factoring in color transition, brilliance and leaf droppage.
In St. Lawrence County, foliage is reported to be past peak in multiple areas. Observers in Wanakena are reporting 100% color change with yellow and orange leaves, along with significant leaf drop. In Massena, at the Seaway Visitor Center near the Eisenhower Lock, color change is at approximately 95%, with a mix of red, orange and yellow hues, also past peak.
Nearby Franklin County is also experiencing past-peak conditions. Reports from Malone, Saranac Lake and Tupper Lake all note 100% color change with fading seasonal shades. In Malone, observers describe mostly muted orange and red leaves. Saranac Lake is showing a blend of remaining colors, while Tupper Lake still features some yellow and orange foliage.
Jefferson County remains one of the few areas in the North Country still at peak. The Thousand Islands Bridge in Alexandria Bay is displaying a full, brilliant range of fall colors, with 100% color change expected this weekend.
Elsewhere in the state, peak foliage is anticipated in the Hudson Valley, Central New York, Capital-Saratoga and Greater Niagara regions. The Finger Lakes, Thousand Islands-Seaway, Catskills and Chautauqua-Allegheny regions will also continue to offer vibrant displays.
Specific locations forecasted to be at peak include Ticonderoga in the Adirondacks; Voorheesville, Rotterdam and East Nassau in the Capital-Saratoga region; Forestburgh, East Durham and Round Top in the Catskills; and Norwich, Herkimer, Middleburgh and Cazenovia in Central New York.
