New York announced a major milestone Monday in the state’s push to lead the global semiconductor race.

Gov. Kathy Hochul celebrated the “topping out” of New York creates’ $1 billion nanofab reflection at the Albany nanotech complex.

The $1 billion investment is the centerpiece of a $10 billion effort to expand NY Creates, which officials say is already the nation’s top public-private chip research hub.

The new facility will be home to the nation’s first publicly owned “high NA extreme ultraviolet lithography center,” with the most advanced chip research and development capabilities anywhere in the world.

“We have something that is very special. We have a deep bench of talented creative people. Very few people can brag about what we have here, the institutions, the synergy between NY Creates and Albany and all of our other academic institutions around here.”

Once completed at the end of next year, the project is expected to support hundreds of jobs and generate $9 billion in private investment.
