NEW YORK (PIX11) – There is a chance for snow this week in New York and New Jersey, according to the National Weather Service.

A storm carrying rain and snow is expected to hit the tri-state area by Wednesday, after the coldest air of the season settles into the region on Monday. Here’s what you need to know:

Snow is possible before 10 a.m. on Wednesday, before rain moves in. High temperatures will be warmer in the mid-40s.

The NWS said the chance of precipitation is 70%.

Expected snow totals

Little to no snow accumulation is expected in New York City. About 1-2 inches of snow is possible for northern New Jersey.

Mostly sunny skies are forecast for Thursday. A 50% chance of snow will return to the tri-state area on Friday.
