Former Bayonne Council President Sharon Ashe-Nadrowski has filed her paperwork to run for mayor in the non-partisan May 12th race that already has two other declared candidates.

A councilwoman at-large for the Peninsula city for two terms between 2014 and 2022, she filed her D-1 form with the New Jersey Election Law Enforcement Commission (NJ ELEC) on November 24th.
She challenged former political ally Mayor Jimmy Davis four years ago and missed pushing the three-person race into a runoff by less than one percentage point, meaning that Davis won on the first ballot with just a hair under 51 percent of the vote.
Once again backed by the Hudson County Democratic Organization (HCDO), Davis is the county sheriff-elect, choosing to go back to his law enforcement roots (he’s a retired police captain) instead of seeking a fourth term.
Davis will not finish his term since he will be sworn into his new office next month, and while a special election is necessary if the city council does not fill the vacant seat within 30 days, that scenario currently appears unlikely.
One of Davis’ running mates from the last cycle, Councilman at-Large Loyad Booker, announced his mayoral run on November 13th, as only HCV reported.
At that time, Ashe-Nadrowski was mentioned as a likely candidate, while it was also noted that local developer Lance Lucarelli had filed his D-1 form with NJ ELEC.
Other potential candidates in the race include former Mayor Mark Smith, who currently works as the the homeland security director for the Hudson County Sheriff’s Office, and longtime political operative John Minella.
Minella is wrapping up his tenure as outgoing Jersey City Mayor Steven Fulop’s chief of staff.
Ashe-Nadrowski was spotted at the victory part of Jersey City Mayor-elect James Solomon last week, possibly opening the door for a political alliance in 2026.
