STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. — Authorities allegedly found drugs on a 37-year-old man who, they say, was openly drinking a beer on a street in New Dorp.
Andrew Ramirez of Bionia Avenue in South Beach was imbibing from a can of Modelo on Nov. 8 at about 10:23 p.m. in the vicinity of New Dorp Plaza and North Railroad Avenue, and had a strong odor of alcohol on his breath, according to the criminal complaint and police.
Officers then found a plastic bag containing white cocaine powder inside Ramirez’s sweatshirt, and a scale tainted with cocaine in a pocket of the man’s pants, the criminal complaint alleges.
Ramirez allegedly provided police with a false name and date of birth.
Ramirez has been charged with criminal possession of a controlled substance with intent to sell, criminal use of drug paraphernalia, criminal possession of a controlled substance, false personation and an administrative code violation of consumption of alcohol on street prohibited.
Ramirez has pleaded not guilty to all charges and has been released with non-monetary conditions. He is due to appear in state Supreme Court in St. George on Jan. 7, according to public records.
An attorney for the defendant did not immediately respond to a request for comment.
