STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. — Police responding to a report of shots fired arrested a 50-year-old man in New Springville, according to sources.

Jesus Ramirez, 50, of Merrymount Street, was found on Nov. 5 at about 7:25 p.m. with a gun in the pocket of his hooded sweatshirt on Richmond Avenue between Nome Avenue and Richmond Hill Road, according to the criminal complaint.

The revolver had a .38-caliber shell casing inside the cylinder, while a .45-caliber bullet was also found in the pocket of the defendant’s hoodie, the complaint alleges.

Officers had been called to the area for a report of shots fired, according to a source with knowledge of the investigation.

The complaint alleges that Ramirez made incriminating statements to police, including that he fired the gun.

“I found [the] gun in Port Richmond about a month ago,” the complaint alleges Ramirez told police. “I was going to throw it in the lake in Richmond Avenue, but I shot it because I wanted to make it safe.”

Ramirez resisted arrest by refusing to place his hands behind his back in order to be handcuffed, the complaint alleges.

Ramirez has been charged with criminal possession of a weapon, criminal possession of a firearm, resisting arrest and possession of ammunition.

Ramirez pleaded not guilty to all charges.

The defendant is free on bail set at $10,000 bond/$5,000 cash and is due back in Criminal Court in St. George on Jan. 26, according to public records.

Attorney Marion Linthicum, who is representing Ramirez, declined to comment at this time.
