BRONX, N.Y. (PIX11) – An NYPD officer saved a choking baby on Wednesday, officials said.
The moment was captured on video.
The officer, who was not in uniform, was driving down the Bronx River Parkway when he was alerted by a driver in a BMW that a baby was choking, police said.
“We thought someone was getting pulled over, but the whole time the baby was choking,” wrote simplesandra _ _ on her TikTok page.
The TikTok user recorded the incident as it happened.
The officer turns the baby over and starts pounding on the back while holding the child. The child, dressed in a pink outfit, is shown in the video. After a few pounds on the back, the officer flips the child over to look at their face. The baby seems to start coughing.
Officials say that once the officer was notified that the child was choking, he immediately provided aid by administering back slaps to the infant, successfully dislodging fluid.
A medical professional at the scene assessed the infant and confirmed they were okay. The driver did not seek further medical attention, police said.
The NYPD did not identify the officer in the video.
