NYU Tandon opens major robotics hub in Brooklyn

DOWNTOWN BROOKLYN — NYU TANDON School of Engineering on Thursday announced the launch of its Center for Robotics and Embodied Intelligence, establishing a major East Coast hub for robotics research and education. More than 70 NYU faculty, PhD students and post-doctoral researchers are working in 10,000 square feet of shared experimental spaces, including a 6,800-square-foot flagship facility on the ground floor of 370 Jay St. in Downtown Brooklyn, NYU said in a release.

An additional 2,200-square-foot Tandon facility houses large-scale multirobot experiments, including a manipulation research lab at the new NYU Courant Institute School of Mathematics, Computing and Data Science. Interdisciplinary interactions will help bridge the gap between the use of AI in the virtual world and its deployment in the physical world, NYU said.

“The intersection between robotics and AI offers unprecedented opportunities for technological developments that will bring enormous benefits to industry and society, with applications ranging from advanced manufacturing to precision surgery,” NYU Executive Dean Juan de Pablo said in a release.
