CITYWIDE — A JOINT INVESTIGATION by the New York City Council and state agencies found health and safety violations at 15 out of 15 “med spas” inspected across the five boroughs, according to a recent statement from the council.

Inspectors cited the businesses, which offer medical and beauty treatments, for conducting unlicensed medical procedures, lack of physician oversight, unhygienic conditions and mislabeled products, among other violations. According to the council’s Oversight and Investigations Division, 100% of inspected locations offered medical services without proper licensure, while nearly two-thirds had chemical or fire safety violations.

Four of the 15 have already lost their licenses, with cases against the remaining locations ongoing.

The council called for regular inspections, clearer consumer warnings, and a statewide education campaign to help New Yorkers avoid unsafe or illegal medspa services.
