The Jets have signed C Josh Myers to a multi-year contract extension.
“It meant everything to me for the team to want to commit to me early,” Myers said following Friday’s practice. “Just the time I’ve had here and the relationships that I’ve built in such a short time – it was an easy decision.”
Myers, 27, has started all 13 games for the Green & White this season and played 100 percent of offensive snaps.
“I think sometimes to build a culture and do what we’re trying to do – it takes time,” he said. “And I have all the faith in the world in [HC Aaron Glenn] and just everyone in here that we’re going to find a way to turn it around and win some football games and are really starting to do something special here. I truly believe that.”
Originally drafted by Green Bay in the second round (62nd overall) of the 2021 draft, Myers signed with the Jets as an unrestricted free agent in March.
“He deserves it, he deserves it, ” Glenn Friday morning, “And again, he came to a team where he knew there was going to be competition, and stiff competition at that. You don’t get that too often. And we have a guy like Tipp [Joe Tippmann] that started. And he’s a guy, and then he’s a guy who’s a starter and he comes in and he wants to battle.
“I feel very fortunate that he chose us, this team, and me to be his coach, to come in and battle for that spot. And he’s done everything that you would want done as a player. Practicing and the way he’s carried himself in the building, outside the building. So he deserves it and I’m happy for him.”
In Green Bay, the Ohio State product started 56 regular-season games at center from 2021-24, logging 3,481 offensive snaps. He also started four postseason games for the Packers.
The Jets are the only NFL team who have started the same 5 offensive linemen in every game this season. The Green & White rank 7th in rushing (128.4 yds/g).
“To have that continuity in our group and get to keep working together and to learn how we like to play together, it’s been good,” Myers said.
